This was a special side event at the 58th session of the CSW, because it included welcoming remarks from The Honourable Kellie Leitch, Minister Status of Women, Canada! She reminded us that every year, nearly 14 million girls are married before the age of 18, and the consequences of that, for the girls, their families, and for society. Others that spoke included the Minister for Women Children and Social Welfare, Malawi, Nazmun Hahar, the Gender Advisor for Plan International, a youth delegate, Dr. Osotimehin, the Executive Director for UNFPA, and Anju Malhotra, the Principal Adviser on Gender and Rights for UNICEF.
