Panel 0n Liberia, given by women ngos secretariat of Liberia

The presentation this morning that I attended was by women from Liberia - there were several in the delegation and two key presenters that did an excellent job of reviewing the history, and the current situation for women in Liberia. Challenges basically coninue, especially gender based violence. Rape continues, and especially on girls, some as young as 2 or 3 months old.

The presenters represented the Women NGOs Secretariat of Liberia - you can see more at the facebook https://www.facebook.com/womensecretariat.

We heard about the victory of Ellen Johnson Sirleaf as President, and the work that is going on, to change a culture where women are traditionally under the control of men, but change is coming. They are organizing in community groups, women only, and working as a priority to change the culture of violence against women - physical, but emotional and psychological too. They are working on bringing men into the discussion on how to change the behavior of men and boys.
